Exclusive distributor now in Japan

For our customers in Japan, we are pleased to let you know that after several months of work, we have established an exclusive distributor for our products there in Japan.

A distributor to work with inside your own country offers several benefits :

1) Because distributors agree to buy in large quantity, we can provide our product at our lowest pricing possible. While the distributor does have to markup the price to cover his cost for shipping, taxes, Customs duties, etc. , and a modest profit, the overall cost to the customer will should be close to what it would  cost to send low quantites such a distance, as you'll see below.

2) The larger purchase allows for the lowest cost of shipping. An
extreme example : If an overseas customer wanted 1 pound of wax (12-
$14), then the cost of shipping would add another $12. This means that it
would cost at least $24 to get 1 pound of wax delivered and take
around 2-3 weeks for delivery.

3) Having a local source to buy from is convient and can cut the
time to receive product from 3 weeks down to as little as 3 days.

Happy Father's Day!

If you're lucky enough to still have your dad, then let him know you love him!

If you're like me, and he's passed on... tell a story to the family about him... or make a toast in his honor.

Enjoy the day!

Mantle Studios Tutorial on creating textures on wax

While I have to admit that I'm way behind my self-imposed schedule for posting PDF tutorials, here's the 2nd one to date, thanks whole-heartedly to Jason Babler and Mantle Studios.

These PDF have 4 goals:

1) Teach a lesson, provide insight, or be an idea generator for others.
2) Provide a little advert for the author.
3) Provide a little advert for WillowProducts.
4) Provide awareness of a charity or cause ( if desired by author)

Please note that these PDF's can be a tad large and take several minutes to load. Additional traffic can be a little brutal on my inexpensive webhost. Lastly, make sure you have the latest FREE Acrobat reader. There's a link on our homepage: http://www.willowproducts.com/

If you missed the first one, here it is:

And without further ado.... here's Jason's tutorial on texturing wax. While he does this on FUSE, the same techniques will work on many brands.

http://www.mantlestudios.com/MantleStudios_WillowWax_Tutorial.pdf

Be sure to look beyond this document.... Jason's site has FANTASTIC tutorials on many things including a speciality ....wings !!!!!!

Thanks Jason!

Test first!

I just wanted to give readers an update on my earlier post on using my homemade polish/release agent consisting of castor oil and alcohol.
While I have used this myself and have gotten reports from others as well, below is a report from a trusted source that reveals that it doesn't work for all molding compunds:

Here is their experience:

1 part castor oil and 5 parts alcohol does retard/destroy the surface of one of my favorite platinum based RTV silicones. Smooth-On Rebound 25;
the brush on type. Both in a brush on and pressure casting. Might of been able to wash it off a surface or use thinner ratios but it is not worth the risk for my work flow as your waxes polish by other means so
well.

End of comment.

This brings up 2 points:
1) always test first as there are hundred of products and thousands of possible combinations and so testing them all and reporting them are not possible.

2) use the highest grade alcohol possible as the alcohol and castor oil may want to hold any water present in the alcohol tight. And of course the platinum cure silicones are the most sensitive to this issue.
