The top photo is a delicate organic sculpt done in MAX-11 with NO armature after 30 minutes in a -20f freezer. The bottom photo is of the same piece after thrawing out for 20+ minutes.
This does NOT mean that you can or should do it with a sculpt that you've spent hours on.
Does this work with the other waxes?... don't have a clue, nor will I have time to test every possible situation.
While I handled this piece gently while moving it in and out of the freezer, I can guarantee you that if I dropped it while frozen it would break! Also if it had been a thicker sculpt, or one of a different geometry, or if it had been built up in layers... then it might have cracked while being frozen.
So the bottomline, is please test, test, test, before you spend lots of time. This especially applies to comptability with mold compounds and molding procedures. There are infinite possibilities in the way artists work and what they use.
I'm beginning to understand how we end up with product warnings on air dryers that say "Do not use while in shower". Please understand that's meant to be a little weak humor!
I'll try to come up with some appropriate statements and put them in meaningful places... but until then please remember.... it is only wax!
