Did I mention how soft the copper tube is? :-)
I drilled a .250 hole about .375 from the top of the slit and then cut away the top of the tube with a small side-cutter. It cut like soft plastic!
I pushed a brass tube inside the copper just to help hold its shape while I filed the soft copper as you see in this photo.
To finish the build and test, I'll fit a wooden dowel inside tube and then secure it with either a small rivet or bolt. A very small pipe clamp would be functional, though certainly not as attractive.
If the proof-of-design goes well, my next one will be made of brass... or know that I look at it the form could have just as easily been cut from flat sheet and then rolled to close the small section.
