Color for all?

The lighter gray color that we've been using in all batches of all waxes since September when 360 was launched seems to please 9 out of 10 artists.

Most artists find that the lighter color shows the shadows of fine details and textures better than the darker gray. And to that accord, we have attempted to set the standard as that lighter color. Some of the blends may vary a little because the natural waxes vary a tad, season-to-season, location-to-location, variances at the refineries where the waxes are processed.

But overall we've got it fairly stable now.

The lighter gray is also easier to control in our own processes and I feel overall it leads to a much better and consistant product.

BUT for the 1 out of 10 artist who likes the darker gray.....

I think I've found a very easy and in-expensive solution for you: Black Chalk as a DRY color modifier. Just a little will darken all the waxes considerably.

Sound exotic?

I bought mine at Lowe's Home improvement center. 1/2 pound cost $2. Not a misprint. $2.

The photo showing the test I did this weekend. Both of these castings are ETHER. The lighter one is the current color "standard" and the darker is the same mixture with black chalk added. I still think the details are easier to see in the lighter gray, but you can decide for yourself.

Here's a link to more product detail for the chalk. You may want to check the MSDS for yourself. It is a dust hazard and so you'll want to be careful to not breath the dust ( like ANY dust ) , perhaps a dust mask.... but beyond that it appears safe to me, but remember you are responsible for your own safety!
Hope you find this interesting/useful.
